Book Review: Top 100 Pasta Dishes – Annabel Karmel

Annabel Karmel’s Top 100 Pasta Dishes -100 easy, everyday recipes for the whole family.

Annabel Karmel’s top 100 pasta dishes was published on 13th may (Ebury Press)

According to the press release this book is ‘her latest instalment of creating healthy, hearty meals for the family, ‘perfect for refining the taste buds of our little budding chefs of tomorrow.’

Her reasons for focussing on pasta are that it is

  • Simple
  • Cost effective
  • Nutritious and
  • Perfectly accompanied by vegetables.

I agree with all the above and have to say pasta has saved the day many times when the shopping is overdue and the purse is empty.

The Review:

I am not a natural cook. I am not a willing cook. I tend to heat a lot of things up and chop quite a lot too. But following a recipe is something I haven’t really tried since school days. However, to review a book about cooing you to have a go don’t you, really.

 Oh well. Here we go……

Bow tie pasta with bacon and peas

First off I went for Annabel’s budget pasta dish (on behalf of all us budgeting parents.)  This meals works out at 94p a head! I use veggie bacon so it probably works out even cheaper than that actually. It takes 5 minutes to prep and 10-12 minutes to cook. This went down an absolute treat and was a simple after school tea for the kids. Cooking it was a breeze…my little boy, aged 5, did most of it…..voila!

Okay my confidence was rising now I decided to go for: the exotic sounding …

Spinach ricotta and tomato lasagne

This took me a bit more than the 8 minutes prep time it should of but I couldn’t find my weighing scales!!  Such a straightforward recipe to follow and do you knows what it was really easy and absolutely delicious. I can’t begin to tell you how proud I am of myself and what a great way to encourage my kids to eat spinach. Here it is…

Annabel Kareml spinach lasagne

I have to say for me the 2 brilliant things about this book are the fact every recipe has a beautiful large photon the opposite page so you can see what it’s supposed to look like and secondly the recipes are very easy to follow.  The book is sectioned really well into baby, toddler, meat, veggies, etc. so you can just access what you want. The book is hardback and costs £9.99 . Available at all good bookshops and of course on Amazon.

Big thumbs up .
