How to choose the best mobile on a budget

In this day and age, choosing a new mobile should be one of the easiest things in the world. But when there are so many different styles available, it can actually become very tricky, particularly if you’re not a tech expert or are working on a baby-friendly budget. Luckily, there are a few things you can do to help narrow down your choice.

Prepare to compare your smartphone options

Firstly, you need to get your priorities straight in your mind. You should get your needs noted down, so that you can keep focus on the important factors. Ultimately, the most important thing to do is a mobile phone comparison, which will allow you to compare and contrast the different features available. So, ask yourself the following questions…

How much do I want to spend?

Modern mobile phones differ wildly in price, but typically if you want a top-of-the-range smartphone with all the latest apps, security options and a high-quality camera, you can expect to pay at least £400. On the other hand, there are some good quality value smartphones on the market, like the Nokia Lumia 735. But you can expect these to struggle when it comes to downloading the latest apps or taking really good pictures.

What will I be using my phone for?

If you simply need a phone for calls, texts, and emails, then you can aim for a model that has a good battery life. If you’re planning on using the internet a lot, you’ll probably need built-in 4G and an unlimited data plan.

Alternatively, if you’re interested in using your phone to listen to music, play games or take photos, then it’s worth researching individual models. Avid photo-takers will want the best quality camera. Top tip – it’s not all about the megapixels rating, so it’s worth going into a shop and actually taking some snaps. Gamers, meanwhile, might want to go for a bigger screen with an excellent display quality, for example the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge or an iPhone 6S Plus.

Do I want to use my mobile with other devices?

If you already have a tablet, a laptop, or a personal computer, then you might want to think about buying a mobile with the same operating system (or OS). Not only will this make it easier to get to grips with your new phone, but it means everything will be compatible, something that tends to make life a lot easier.

Is the phone easy to use?

Lastly, it’s worth thinking about ease of use. If you have enough budget and aren’t particularly tech-minded, then an iPhone can be a great option as they are very simple to use. Alternatively, an Android may be your preferred choice if you want more choice and control over your device. If you are willing to invest a bit more time in getting to grips with the technology, they could be your best bet.

By asking yourself the right questions, and then weighing your options with a comparison tool, you can home in on the right smartphone for your needs. What has helped your choices in the past? Have you ever made the wrong choice? Why? Share your thoughts below…
