Life’s Little Luxuries on a Budget

There are somethings in life that just make you feel good  don’t they? I’m not thinking of gorgeous holidays in the sunshine or sleek new cars or even a shopping spree (well I am thinking about them NOW but that isn’t what I meant.)

Some things are quite inexpensive but they really do make a difference to how ‘treated’ you feel. It is very good for the soul to feel treated every now and again I think.

I have lots of treats in my life though of course I d0  keep the costs down.

I have to say I really do like good coffee it really floats my boat. It makes me think of France and spring days and books and friends. It makes me feel happy. This is a daily luxury I just have to indulge. I buy one cup filters or coffee bags rather than purchase a luxury coffee machine or lead a cafe lifestyle and these work beautifully. Check these out at the supermarket it works out at about 20 pence per cup.

I treat myself to fabulous facemasks rather than have spa treatments  and I paint my own nails rather than have luxury manicures. I hot oil my own hair and soak my feet and generally turn my home into a beauty salon when I feel the urge. Superdrug and Boots are great for inexpensive toiletries and you really are worth it you know!

Libraries give me all the fresh reading I need and I record movies on TV so I feel I have cinema tickets whenever I want them.

Fresh new sheets float my boat and bath towels that are deep pile and gorgeous make me feel really spoilt. There is a huge selection of gorgoeous bed linens and good towels over at The  Yorkshire Linen Co. and they have a sale on too!

I absolutely adore flowers and would fill my home with them if I could. But flowers are a real luxury these days. So instead I fill my home with drawings of flowers made by my daughter, pretty plants that last and very occasionally on special occasions we have the real thing. When we do we just keep them cheap and cheerful or we cut them from the garden and I look after them well to make them last.

I am a firm believer that a frugal and thrifty life should still be one of quality and lifes little luxuries can be included within it.

  1. A little luxury I really enjoy is ironing my bedsheets. It takes absolutely ages so I only do it once in a blue moon, but the result is like slipping between the sheets of an expensive hotel. There’s also a certain fabric conditioner which promises 7 days of fresh sheet smell which I adore – I’ve stocked up as it’s half price in several supermarkets at the moment, and I use it on my favourite clothes and towels as well as bedding.

I love the idea of having flowers drawn by our children instead of the real thing! I mentioned it to my daughter and she made me a collage to hang in my bedroom so I can “wake up and see pretty flowers every morning” – thanks for that =)
