Hi, what’s your name?
My name is Louise and I blog at A Strong Coffee (fab blog name!)
Three boys aged 5, 3 and 1.
Do you work? FT/PT?
Not anymore. I gave up teaching after my second child was born.
If you don’t work why don’t you?
I feel that as I am lucky enough to be able to afford to stay at home with my boys, I should. I would rather spend less money on myself and be able to watch them grow up. Also the cost of childcare for three versus a teaching salary means I wouldn’t be earning that much money if I did return at the moment.
How do you manage for money?
My husband has a good job which means I can stay at home. On the downside, he works away a lot and does long hours.
Do you worry about money?
Yes. Often too much. I rarely spend money on myself and would rather use money to take my boys on a day out.
What do you waste money on?
I never take enough drinks with me on a day out and always end up having to pay a premium price to get some.
Have you made any big financial changes since having kids?
Only giving up work.
How do you make extra cash?
Blogging helps. I have also sold some of our baby equipment that was still in a good condition.
Can you share 3 top budgeting tips for other parents?
1. Have a stock of Birthday presents for children’s parties, which you have bought in the sales, which means you don’t have to rush out and pay full price for something. You can get some great half price offers on Lego and books.
2. If you like a certain clothes brand for your children, sign up for their newsletters/emails. That way you often get told about promotions first and get special discounts.
3.If you are planning a family day out, check the internet for special discount codes. Often booking online gets you a discount and avoids queues when you arrive.
