Profile of a budgeting mum: Maritza Masiello

Hi, what’s your name?  Maritza Masiello

Any kids? Yes, 4 aged between 5 and 13 years

Do you work? FT/PT? Business Owner

Why do you work? Love it

What are your child care arrangements? My business means I can work around their school hours

How do you manage for money? OK

Do  you worry about money? Of course. Just because I’m OK now, doesn’t mean it will always be that way.

What do you waste money on?  Vintage furniture projects which I have good intentions for but they end up cluttering!

Have you made any big financial changes since having kids?  Not consciously – I think I’m just generally always looking ahead and hoped that we’ve planned enough for their future.

Can you share 3 top budgeting tips for other parents?

1. Buy quality – I know it may seem a bit more expensive at first but in the long run it’s worth it. They can also be passed on to subsequent children.

2.  Try to always remind yourself, that babies and children have so many stages and milestones so try not to spend a fortune on items which are specifically for a stage which will last a couple of months.

3.  If you have bought timeless and traditional toys – remember that they will be sought after by other parents, especially if they are of good quality. This means you can sell them at a later stage.

My blog, www.blog.homeandkids.co.uk is where I write about what is happening at my shop, Home & Kids. www.homeandkids.co.uk I will let readers know about new products I may be stocking, places I have been sourcing new and interesting items and generally anything which interests me and will hopefully interest readers.

Thanks so much for you answers.
