The team honk relay was coming my way…..
Penny and co. were cycling the baton 30 miles into Nottingham. Jen , Amanda Emily and Louise were walking it 20 miles to Derby the next day. I couldn’t join them
When team honk bought their baton relay for sports relief to Nottingham I felt pretty useless. . At Christmas I had experienced some major health issues that have left me needing to use a ventilator and with very restricted mobility. I knew I couldn’t do my part.
But I was wrong……………………there is always a way isn’t there?
My dear friend Helen suggested I cycle with the baton with my ventilator on. Now my ventilator is about the size of a microwave and just a s heavy and needs to be plugged in so my miles would have to be on the exercise bike, but still, what a great idea.
So I did it. I cycled 10k on my exercise bike, ventilator on and Mr B the baton proudly in my hand.
I did it in 22 minutes and was EXHAUSTED but proud.
More importantly I was sponsored by lots of lovely family and friends who have been cheering me on ever since I got ill. Bless them
I have learnt sport really is for all no matter what our physical challenges are: creativity, support, encouragement and inclusion are essential.
Sports Relief raises money for people in need all over the world and supports amazing projects like food banks and providing shelter and fresh water for those in need
Please do consider sponsoring the team honk relay if you haven’t already
Here is the Nottingham team honk just giving page
(and if you have already sponsored us …thank you from the bottom of my heart. What an exciting varied, courageous interesting mad journey it has been. Well done Tanya, Annie and Penny for all you hard work in organising it and really well done everyone who took part and of course THANK you to everyone who donated. )
Sport is the theme of this weeks….
