Why we MUST wash soft toys

This is orang-utan

fairybook

He is a much loved, much cuddled, well travelled bear who lives in our house. He most certainly needs a wash.

Do you have someone like that living in your house?

‘Care For Your Bear’ is a new campaign launched by Dettol to encourage us to get washing our children’s soft toys.

The campaign aims to highlight the importance of keeping children’s soft toys hygienically clean, especially after they have been ill, in order to keep our kids healthy and stop the germs spreading. It makes total sense right? We all do that don’t we?

Don’t we?

Dettol found that the vast majority of teddies are not washed after a child has been ill and that 20% of our kids favourite cuddlies have in fact never ever been washed. Oops.

It’s all a bit ick!

Dettol’s research showed that 25% of teddy bears contained bacteria linked to faeces and 66% contained straphylococcus aureus which is a microbe linked to skin infections, respiratory disease and food poisoning.

Have look at the infographic and I bet you’ll be gathering teddies to wash just as soon as you finish reading! It’s a actually a serious health hazard not to ….

I have to say part of what puts me off washing teddies is the fact I do not want to spoil them or my clothes. Bear-ing that in mind, here is some teddy washing advice…

Eeek! My daughter has a much-loved bear. He gets washed about once a year at the most (we always hand wash him). The main thing that puts me off washing him is him not being dry in time for bed. She’s generally very careful about hygiene, but always picks him up straight after she’s been to the toilet, before she washes her hands! I might be giving him a quick wash now I’ve read this.
