The Mindful Mother Jacket

The Mindful Mother offers you unparalleled guidance, support and nurturing throughout pregnancy, labour and early motherhood. Author Naomi Chunilal shows how clear and simple meditation and self-development practices based on Buddhist and yogic principles can help you to cultivate a daily practice of mindfulness, to empower you to be present and find greater happiness and fulfilment through pregnancy, birth and beyond.

Organised into clear, thematic sections, this book can be dipped into for emergency inspiration or read from cover to cover. It explores common mothering dilemmas with honesty and integrity, helping you to keep both feet firmly on the ground. It includes how to: cope with having minimal personal time and space, manage difficult in-laws, resolve maternal resistance, balance work and home, and create greater enjoyment within the sometimes tedious and frustrating daily routines of looking after a young baby or child. Most of all, the Mindful Mother shows you how to understand your true nature, so your mind is working with you, rather than against you in your new mothering role.

The first of its kind: the Mindful Mother is like an intimate and honest friend, inspiring the hearts of new mothers and mothers-to-be. This is living, breathing mindfulness in action, empowering you to wear your new mothering role more comfortably, and to understand yourself better in doing so. Throwing an emotional lifeline to all women who want to resolve the paradox that ‘I really love my baby and family but….” and grow through the difficult patches, to find deeper self-awareness, insight and contentment against the daily backdrop of new family life.

When my Mum thinks something is troubling me – she will do everything she can to try and fix it – even now I’m 38! I can be a right pain – I’m often grumpy and tired with work and managing the home for my daughter and I, on my own, but she never gives up on me.

I’ve been probably the opposite of a perfect daughter & my mum has had to go through some difficult & upsetting things thanks to me. Despite everything I’ve put her through (of which I am not proud and will not go into detail about) she has stuck by me through it all and been my biggest (and often only) supporter. Shes the reason I’m probably still here today and without her I’d probably have never came out the other side of the bad times in my life and for this I’ll be eternally grateful. I’m currently 33 weeks pregnant and if I can be half the mother to my own unborn son that she was and is to me then I’ll be a happy. She is amazing & the kind of mother I’m aspiring to be for my own child.

Best thing is she’s always there. We’ve had our ups and downs (an understatement!) but got through it all and now have a strong relationship. I know I could turn up on her doorstep any time and she’d welcome me with open arms.

My mother is no longer with us but her best quality was making us feel she would never leave us. There was nowhere else she belonged but with us providing us with security. I hope I did the same for my own children.

Everybody thinks their mum is the best and has the best qualities, so it’s really hard to argue against what other people have written. I feel my mum is the honest to goodness best mum in the world. She is truly the most selfless, self-effacing, kind, considerate and caring person I have ever met. She extends this, not to just her family, but her friends, neighbours and anyone she comes across.
