Win £100 worth of days out vouchers for your family

How are your weekends?

New research from Allianz Your Cover Insurance has found that half of Brits (50%) rate their weekends as average and nearly a fifth (18%) say their typical weekend is boring. Allianz Your Cover Insurance has launched its Great British Weekend campaign2 to overcome weekend boredom by urging everyone to get out and about to make the most of their weekends.

Andy James of Allianz Your Cover said: “We want to instil a renewed sense of adventure in Britons’ weekends and encourage us all to make the most of what Britain has to offer. We are a nation that is known for ‘living for the weekend’ however it turns out that when it gets to the weekend most Brits are wasting it. We are launching our Great British Weekend campaign to highlight the potential fun there is to have at the weekend by uncovering new places or having new experiences.”

 The research showed:

  • Those aged 55+ are most likely to be enjoying the year ahead with an average of five day trips planned
  • The majority (91%) of Brits use their cars to go away at the weekend but are only prepared to travel an average of 58 miles
  • Older generations have the most adventurous spirit as they are willing to drive the furthest for a day trip and weekend away.

My favourite thing to do at the weekend is a simple trip to the local park so the boys can run free, then a trip to the bakers on the way home before snugglung on the sofa in front of a family movie – heaven.

Parking is free, there is a large duck pond, aviary, tennis courts, football pitches, beautiful gardens, garden centre, a childrens play area with a small steam train, a massive expanse of grassed area to roam, play frisbee/cricket/football/tig/hide and seek, have a picnic we are only limited by our imagination!

I love to take my daughters out when the weather is dry, either cycling down at the riverside, where you have the wind in your hair and you breathe in the fresh air or go to the park and let them run wild, climb, swing, slide and play with the ball, frisbee or even a kite when there is a good wind blowing. If the weather is not great, then we’ll play a board game like ludo or snakes and ladders. You can spend hours playing ludo and not even notice. Make chocolate crispie cakes and put either small marsh mallows, raisins or smarties on them. There is things that you can do without having to break the bank. It just takes a little imagination and to remember what you did as a child. It’s fun reliving your own childhood!!

I don’t have one particular favorite thing to do , I like a lot of variety. a few of my favs though are:
    – baking with the kids, they love making cupcakes, we made mr potato head ones last weekend with gummi lips, teeth and other sweets as the face.
    – going for a walk/picnic with the dog (unfortunately not had nice weather much)
    – Going to museums , there is a lot of good free ones that the kids love and a few more expensive ones that I would like to visit more often, my son really wants to go back to the flight museum
    – craft activities or building jigsaws

We love getting out and about. What we do depends on the weather but family favourites are walks in the Peak District, going to the park and visiting the local butterfly house/farm. If its not so nice we might stay in and do some baking/crafts or have an indoor picnic. We’re never bored!

We try to make the most of the weekend but at the same time the kids need to relax otherwise they are too tired for school the next week. It seems that most weekends there will be at least one birthday party so we tend to chill out that day other than going to the party for an hour or two, and on the other day we like to get outside and go to the park, the beach, the woods, riding bikes etc….unless the weather is as bad as this and then we go to a softplay so the kids can burn off some energy while Mum and Dad enjoy a latte!

We love to spend the weekend together doing things as a family. If it’s a nice dry day we will go to the beach and take a picnic, or we go for long walks in the countryside or along the local estuary. If the weather isn’t so great, we like to go to stately homes, museums or art galleries, or bowling or the cinema.
